GAD Government Actuary's Department

Insurance supervision

GAD’s insurance team specialises in providing advice to insurance supervisors throughout the world in the interests of protecting policyholders.

We help our clients deliver effective risk-based supervision in the financial sector with a particular focus on life and general insurance, reinsurance and other risk transfer mechanisms.

An important part of our advice is the analysis of, and detailed commentary on, various aspects of the work of the actuary in an insurance company.

How GAD can help you

  • In-depth reviews of insurance companies, analysing regulatory returns and financial statements.
  • Analysis of business plans submitted for the authorisation of new companies, or for mergers and acquisitions of existing companies.
  • The development or improvement of insurance regulations, and guidance on their interpretation for the industry and the supervisor.
  • On-site inspection manuals to provide a framework for supervisors to establish and carry out a programme of visits to insurance companies.
  • Training programmes for supervisors.
