Between the 1950s and 2006 the Government Actuarys
Department carried out a series of major surveys of occupational pension
schemes
in
the United
Kingdom.
The
surveys determined the extent to which employees
in
the United Kingdom were covered by occupational pension
schemes and analysed the nature of the benefits provided,
the contributions paid and other pension topics of interest
to the government, employers and employees. Each survey
was based on information obtained from a large and
comprehensive sample of pension schemes.
Responsibility for these surveys transferred to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in 2006.

Online query builder
The online query builder facilty, previously provided by
GAD to allow users direct access to the database of responses
to the survey, is currently being reviewed by the Office
for National Statistics to ensure it conforms with ONS standards
on data confidentiality.
