Legal marital status
The projections are based on the mid-2003
legal marital status estimates for England & Wales published
by the Office for National Statistics on 4 November 2004.
These estimates are consistent with the latest national
(age and sex) population estimates published by ONS on 9
September 2004 and therefore take account of the revisions
to the mid-2001 and mid-2002 populations of England &
Wales also published on 9 September 2004. Further details

Cohabitation
The cohabitation projections are based on the mid-2003
cohabitation estimates for England & Wales published
by the Office for National Statistics on 22 February 2005.
These estimates are consistent with the mid-2003 legal marital
status estimates described above. The cohabitation estimates
and projections relate to opposite-sex co-residential cohabiting

Population coverage
The population includes all usually resident persons, whatever
their nationality. Members of HM armed forces in England
& Wales are included, but members of HM armed forces
and their families who are outside England & Wales are
excluded. Foreign armed forces in England & Wales are
included, with dependants if they are accompanied.
