‘Full’ population projections
by age and sex for the United Kingdom and constituent countries are produced every
two years. These sets of projections are based on a review of all the underlying
assumptions regarding fertility, mortality and net migration. The current set of
projections are 2008-based and were published on 21 October 2009 by the Office for
National Statistics (ONS). Full details of this set of projections can be accessed
from the National Statistics website.
In the intervening years between full
projections, special sets of ‘interim’ projections may be produced.
This database includes two recent sets (2001-based and 2003-based) of interim projections.
The 2008-based projections replace the 2006-based population projections published
in October 2007.
All national projections since the
1998-based set were made available online on the GAD website at the time of their
publication. In October 2006, this database of past national projections was extended
back to the first set produced by GAD in 1954. Click the link for
further details.
ONS published 2006-based population projections by marital status for England & Wales
on 31 March 2009. For further details please click the link.
